One hundred and thirty six to dinner, can't be bad and it wasn't. A great meet-up in the bar downstairs then off to eat. Standard Simpson's menu with saddle of English Lamb in the middle of things. Keys to the successful turnout due to Nick Zelle, who 'e' mailed any and every with a list of the early acceptances. Thus provoked a snowball effect. Hamish Dow ran a show of his own and produced the 'A" Team of nineteen of his era, All take note!
Grace first as traditional, by the Head Boy, Stephen Hillier, The meal, then the toasts - David Fangen OC proposed the School against a welter of noise from a group of torpedoes in the middle of the room, These may well have got their drinks at pub prices beforehand. He made it nonetheless. The Headmaster in reply kept order in class, told the joke of the archbishop and the headmaster at the Pearly Gates. The Latter got preference simply because they'd never had one ring the bell before! Then to the H.M's report on how Lex's dream of Clayesmore fares. We seem to be rubbing along, but an Oxford cricket Blue puts a shine on things. Moreover, Tom Hicks is to be Captain next season. Andrew Curtis OC made his pitch for the Society and handed over to Bob Mash OC (and mostly anything 'C" you care to name). From the age of ten at the Prep School in '49, to Balliol and back to teach Biology at Clayesmore. Newly retired he is newly into the OC Soc chair. Watch this space! Bob launched into his reply by saying he would stick to Hegel's index for timing speeches: the time it takes for a procreative event i.e. a soft-boiled egg if you're British! Could be worse; because Emanuel Kant.
During the evening the Society presented R.F.M. with a mobile 'phone of world-wide ability. While all and any of this was going on, Hon. Sec. moved among the speakers and diners with camera and a heavy flash gun. Result is thirty four prints downloaded onto Mark Farrand's famous 0.C.Website. There is one of each speaker and assorted diners variously occupied: H.M. leaning back in his chair ready for a dental inspection (A.J.Bradley OC was on hand), Jane Salkeld smoking a cigar and Blizzard Barnes and Alan Bradley giving the Head girl the benefit of their years and experience and she with a smile on her face!
To conclude, our President David Anderson proposed the Founder's toast and wound up the evening. Back to the
Bars and wherever. A good time being had by anything that moved with preservative fluids being taken in all directions.
THAT SAID, THAT WAS A DINNER!
