OCs who were at the School in the 1960s and 1970s will be sorry to learn of the death of Marjorie Teasdale in May of this year. "Mrs T", as she was affectionately known, started work at Clayesmore in the Spring Term of 1965 under the Headmastership of Peter Burke as assistant to the Bursar, Colonel Seagrim. She remained at the school until the end of the Summer Term of 1975. In late June of 1969 her husband died as a result of a car accident and in spite of this tragedy Mrs Teasdale showed great courage in continuing to work so that the end of year accounts could be completed.
Colonel Seagrim was succeeded by Major Duncan and when the latter became seriously ill and unable to work at the school, Mrs Teasdale's workload increased considerably, as, in addition to her clerical duties, she had the additional responsibility of dealing with the maintenance and ground staff. I assumed the overall responsibility of the Bursarship until the appointment of Edward Hardman and during this time I was able to appreciate Marjorie's sterling qualities. She was always readily approachable by all who sought her help and earned the respect of all for her efficiency, sense of humour and readiness to help in any matter, however small. I feel I was uniquely placed to be able to appreciate just how great her contribution was to the School at a time when financial stringency was of paramount importance. The School owes her a considerable debt of gratitude for her loyal service.
Sympathy is extended to her daughter, Elizabeth, who married Jonathan, son of Betty Greenway, formerly Manageress of the School Shop. Her funeral service took place at St Mary's, Gillingham, on 17 May. The Association was represented by Ruth Dear, Nicholas Zelle, Robert Mash and Roy Mclsaac.
