Coe,Tony (71-74) as helped form a new political party that is the first of its kind in the world.  Like the Green Party, 'Equal Parenting Party' is a single-issue party, but with a different objective. The Party's mission is to fight for reform of a legal system that it says causes many of the children of broken homes to lose one parent afte divorce for no good reason. The parent they effectively lose is the one who can no longer live with them, normally (but not always) their dad. The family courts, stuck in a time warp, blindly support the nuclear unit, thereby discriminating against the off-site parent, who ceases (in the system's eyes) to have any value as a parent, beyond providing financial support.

Equal Parenting Party was launched in July 1999 on the BBC TV 6 O'clock News and Tony has since done numerous TV and Radio interviews, including one on Newsnight. The party is fighting for reforms which will lead to both parents being treated equally after separation for the sake of the children. On 2 October 2000, the Party sent 150-strong delegation to present a petition, signed by 20,000 parents and grandparents, to the Prime Minister to coincide with the Human Rights Act. The protest highlighted the fact that British judges often deny parents the right even to see their children without any good reason, simply because the resident parent will not agree access arrangements. Even when courts do make access orders, they are not worth the paper they are written on, because courts are unwilling to enforce them. This parental discrimination, practised in secret by our family courts is as repugnant and intolerable as racial discrimination. It affects innocent children who have only the law to protect their basic Human Right to keep BOTH parents. The family courts are not applying the law as Parliament intended. The express intention was that both parents should continue to be involved in parenting their children after separation. Visit www.EqualParenting.org.
