Subject: Choral Day
Dear Nick - A voice from the past! 1953-57 I believe, (we were there together for some of the time you may recall) before fifteen years in the Royal Navy, and another twenty-five or so in Ottawa, Canada, principally working in the maritime field! I am currently doing a stint as 'instant professor' at the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden, and expect to be here for another year, before heading back to Canada. Which brings me to the reason for the e-mail. I am very much hoping to make the Choral Day. Also of course to take in the Scadding exhibition, and see the old school again after a very long gap. I shall be arriving fresh from a week's sailing on the Brittany Coast with Julian Pagella (of the same vintage as I, and he may also drop by), and will head back to Sweden on the Sunday.
I am currently singing as a tenor with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra Choir, (an interesting challenge since the direction is all in Swedish!). We have recently given a concert performance of Bizet's Carmen (in French), performed a bizarre piece by Martinsson (in Swedish), and are presently preparing to perform Bach's St John's Passion (in German) and the B-Minor Mass (in Latin). This is not for the linguistically challenged! Fortunately my Swedish colleagues (who all seem to speak excellent English) help me out!
I would appreciate it if I could be placed on the mailing list, so that I can receive details about the day, as and when they become available.
Incidentally (principally for OC Soc digestion!) I have sent off my Standing Order form to my British Bank. £10 should be forthcoming very shortly. If not please let me know.
One final thing, does Bobby Mash have an e-mail address? If so could you let me have it?
Thanks
With best wishes.
Dick. (Hodgson) (53-58)
