Twenty Five things I remember about Clayesmore - 1964-1967 Mike Manson
1. The rickety school-bus (surely before the days of MOTs) meeting the train at
Gillingham.
2. Porridge for breakfast - throughout the year.
3. Humph Moore's little red car parked under the Gate-house.
4. Firealarms in the middle of the night.
5. 'Spends'
6. The village bakery -eating a whole fresh loaf for breakfast.
7. The barber shop - Kev Moore saying he wanted his haircut like the blonde one
in the Man from Uncle. The barber, however, only did one style: short back and
sides.
8.Experiments in the chemistry lab with V - the class lying on the grass outside
the Tuck Shop gasping for air after a particularly effective lesson on the
production of Cholrine Gas.
10. Rev. Drinkall's cigars -you could smell from the choir stalls whether he'd
been smoking before chapel.
11. Exams in the gym - always too hot, with the grass being mown directly
outside.
12. 'The Bruiser' - Mr Burke's older brother, according to Mr Henbest
13. HD sneezing.
14. Saturday Morning Specials
15. Spinney's pictures on the blackboard - especially the time somebody wiped
them off.
16. Trying to get served in a pub in short trousers.
17. Sunsets over Hambledon Hill
18, Diiiiiiivvvvvvsssss.
19. Shovelling coke on a Saturday afternoon.
20. The Saturday evening film -especially if it was in Cinemascope - which meant
the picture was distorted
21. The smell of silage - especially on Speech Day
22. Fireworks on the bottom field - all rockets aimed at Major Aldworth's hut.
23. The train back to Waterloo - who let off those fireworks?
24. Snow - building a snowball so big that it blocked the side
entrance of the main building.
24. My best mates: Caz and Potts
