Letters 2001

Allison Watkins

Jan 30th

Dear Robert,

Thank you very much for your letter of sympathy on David's death from yourself personally and on behalf of Old Clayesmorians. It was good of you to write and I much appreciated it.

Clayesmore was always a great find for David when we motored through Iwerne in April '59 on our way to Corfe Castle. Until then we didn't know anything of Iwerne or Clayesmore. An interview almost immediately with Peter Burke secured the classics job and we started out on what proved to be a very happy period in out life, especially when he discovered he was needed to take on the 1st XI cricket. It was wonderful to have so many Old Clayesmorians at the Church Service. They have kept in touch over the years when we left for London and their friendship meant a lot to David.

David was ill for two years with cancer but had some remission within that time. However last January he became unwell again and it was a steady decline in health from that time. The hospice looked after him and us with much care and affection and we were luck in that respect. It is devastating without him but I have much support from family and friends.

Yours sincerely,

Allison (Watkins)
