L
A G Howse 1937-1940
Tony
Howse died on the 29th August 2000 in Durban. Born and brought up in Kuala
Lumpur he was fluent Malayan. An accomplished rider, he took part in the
equestrian display on Speech Day 1938.
He
left Clayesmore some two years before me and I had quite forgotten him until at
the end of 1945 I was greeted by a smart salute with a large grin behind it.
We
never met again but corresponded once a year at Christmas when, unlike me, he
wrote long entertaining letters.
After
the War he tried his hand at farming but following a final year in Denmark he
returned to England where he met and married Joyce. Three years later, depressed
by the English weather, they decided to move to sunny South Africa, his former
home.
There
he worked for a publisher who produced magazines and brochures for all the
provinces, also supplying South Africa with most of its picture postcards.
Tony
is survived by Joyce, his widow, and two daughters.
J C Edwards (33-42)
