Proposed Scadding Annual Art Prize Fund
The idea to honour Scad's memory with a DIY exhibition of his work during the OC Dorset events on September 15th generated very considerable interest: 50 pictures were brought along to the school, an appreciation was written by Jeremy Dowling ( 51 56), several OCs surfaced to add warm words of appreciation for our remarkable former Chaplain and Art Teacher.
A very imaginative proposal has been put forward by John Eveliegh (40 - 44) and David Koster (41 - 44) (see letter) who both generously donated pictures for silent auction to launch the proposed fund in an impressive way.
This Newsletter contains these photographs of the magnificent pictures (taken by our Hon.Sec.)
OCs are invited to bid for these pictures by submitting their bids to the OC Society Chairman (Robert Mash, Old Thatch, Havelins, Stourpiane, Blandford Dorset. DT11 8TH. Tel: 012584 52265, chairman@ocsociety.co.uk ) as soon as possible but by the end of January.
The OC Committee are hoping to have these two splendid pictures reproduced as Greeting cards which will be offered for sale to OCs and any proceeds will be paid into the Scadding Art Prize Fund.
Another very generous donation towards this excellent scheme has
been made by John Gould(40 45).
Hewas left an unusual Scad by Jos and Tos: A
Pallet knife picture of A Mill (none of us are sure whether it is Fiddleford or
Durweston). The picture is illustrated on the front of this Edition of the
Newsletter. This is also offered for Secret Auction and bids should be sent to
Robert Mash as soon as possible, but by the end of January.
OCs may also have noticed an article about Tony Hart (41 43) concerning Scad in the Daily Telegraph (some months ago). He was approached and invited to attend the Scad Exhibition. He was unable to attend but kindly sent an original and a colour copy of a 'Hartoon' of 'Scad and Apples'. They too, are up for Silent Auction and bids should be sent to Robert Mash as soon as possible, but by the end of January and any proceeds will be added to the fund.
