I was very sorry to hear of the death of Roy McIsaac, whose headship commenced during my time at Clayesmore.

I have particular cause to remember him, as he was unfortunate enough to have the task of breaking the news to me that my father had died in 1967, whilst I was at the School.

I see from the Newsletter the various developments that have taken place over the years since my time at the School; I doubt I would recognise the place.

I was amongst the first to take up residence in the then new Manor House with Mr MacDonald as housemaster, failed to absorb the "pearls cast before swine" by Mr Spinney in the old end classroom by the lake field, was chased around the old gym by Mr Foote, and declaimed my lines in Hamlet, A Penny for a Song, etc. in the old theatre under the direction of "V".

Nick Zelle may also remember a curious incident involving a trip to rescue an old car with a con-rod through the block, and a visit to the QE2 in Southampton in his old mini-bus, when the security guard let us into the docks because he thought we had come all the way from New Zealand (NZ had a NZ plate on the mini-bus).

My hours of so-called "revision" in the study room opposite the old Biology lab in Gate House were completely wasted, and I got my just desserts, being what would appear in today's terms to be a total failure in that I didn't make it to University.

I started my working life polishing laboratory benches in a pharmaceutical company, moved into the computer business in the late 70's and eventually ended up as a Sales Manager in a large IT Services company.

I have now semi-retired and my wife and I have moved to the Isle of Wight, where I am involved in helping raise funds for the RNLI.
