Chin Pang is a remarkable young man. On arriving from Hong Kong merely two
years ago, he made an immediate impact. With his curious fondness for his
concept of a traditional English gentleman, he has been determined to experience
as much of England and English life as possible. Not only has he made the most
of every opportunity offered to him, he has also created his own opportunities.
For example, no sooner had he arrived at Clayesmore than he was organising trips
to the Royal Opera House. This desire to experience as much of England as
possible has even led him on to three-week horse riding holidays.
Equipped, at various times, with Burberry, Barbour, deerstalker and top hat, he has added style to our VIth form and has been an extremely distinctive prefect. He has learned to ride and to play cricket (for the Gentlemen's XI of course) and has been up to London frequently to go to the Royal Opera House. He is undoubtedly one of the most adventurous, enquiring and inspired pupils that we have ever met from Hong Kong. His distinctive contribution has been rewarded by a highly commended in the British Council International Student Awards, a competition seeking to identify students who have made the most of their time in the UK and by the award of this year's Old Clayesmorian prize.
At Speech Day Chin Pang received an Effort and Progress prize as well as the
Senior Art prize and the OC award. He was dressed in full morning dress with a
top hat. As he came up to receive his second prize, Baroness Warnock was heard
to remark "Oh, it's him again!"
