Subject: Re: In search of an OC
Dear Nick (Mr Zelle), I am not sure if you still are involved with the OC
association but you were when I last had occasion to visit the UK and Clayesmore
(1997). My brother Jonathan and I were both at Clayesmore together in the mid to
late 60's and also had the pleasure of living not too far from your home in
Somerset. As our home was in Trinidad we used to stay at a holiday home in Curry
Rivel during the school vacations. Anyway, to cut to the chase, Jonathan and I
now live in Australia and he has passed me on this address to make enquiries
about 'old boys'. I am particularly interested in trying to trace Peter Fox,
whom I had also gone through Clayesmore Prep. with. (He lived in Kenya at the
time). I wonder if the register has any info on him that might help me make
contact.
Would be very interested to hear what you are doing with yourself these days. On
my last visit to the UK I dropped in at the school with my daughter and had a
wonderful opportunity to show her around the grounds. Very nostalgic and
wonderful.
Hope this finds you in good health. Would like to take this opportunity to wish
you all the best for 2003.
Sincerely,
Matthew Davies (66-69)
Dear Matthew,
I remember you well- didn't you play the trumpet?
I remember you and your brother and the 'Barky' connection at Curry Rival too!
I have a problem in getting a swift answer to you: I am as untidy as ever and I
am looking after a 95 year old mother (back in North Curry) who has an obsession
for 'tidying up' - I leave things out and she tidies them away but has a memory
problem and can't remember where she has put them!
I think this is what must have happened to the most recent OC register I have.
However I have found a 2001 register - you are not in it! (You may be in the
most recent one) Neither is Jonathan so we must put that right straight away -
Please send me an address for both of you - and also an 'e' mail address for you
both - don't worry - you will not be pestered to contribute!
There is an address for Peter J Fox (66/71) 38 Camp Drive, Houghton Regis, Nr
Dunstable, Beds. LU5 5HE
Why not try the OC Website:-
http://www.ocsociety.co.uk
Hope to hear from you soon. In the mean time I will contact John Grant and ask
him if he has anything more recent for Peter Fox - just remind me of the years
you were at Clayesmore so that I can make sure we have the right fellow.
Nick
5/1/03 3:12 am,
You are of course, spot on with your memory. That is truly amazing. It's one
thing for a student to remember his teachers and their various foibles/quirks
etc. but quite another thing for a 'master' to remember a former student of 34
years ago! I take my hat off to you Nick!
How amazing too that you still have a mother alive and obviously she's quietly
active too! As I am now 50, I imagine that you are probably 60 plus. I
congratulate you on being there for your mother.
As I am just about to head out the door to a performance (I play in an 8 piece
steel band) I will just give you these details to bring the register up-to-date
and try to drop you a line with a bit more info in due course.
I was at Clayesmore between 1966-69, and Jonathan was there from 1964-67. Must
run now. Thanks so much for the lead to Peter Fox, you have an email address for
him, I would be very grateful for it.
Thanks again,
Matthew
Sorry - we do not have an 'e' mail address for Peter Fox. If you make contact
do send information to us and ask him to re-connect
Good to hear that you are still musically involved.
You might remember that I had a connection with Barky too - when I was about 7
and we returned for a long holiday from Egypt, Barky looked after my sister and
I for a few weeks at Court Hall in North Moulton! There was also another
Clayesmore connection - the parents of another OC ....... Riddel bought Court
Hall from Barky when she moved to Curry Rivel - a small world!
