Dear Nick,
Thanks for your e mail.
I don't go to London much nowadays, so must decline your kind invitation to meet
perhaps some OCs of my advanced age.
Dare I enquire whether you were the boy whose enterprising and ingenious exploit
is recorded on pp.106 et seq. in David Spinney's School History? If so, I take
off my cap in admiration. I showed the pages to a local friend who was at
Bryanston contemporaneously with me at Clayesmore, and he was greatly tickled
and is passing it round to other OBs.
My own exploit, which pales in comparison with Z's, was, with two other boys who
shall be nameless, to go to the camera club darkroom, hang a notice on the door,
reading " development in progress DO NOT ENTER", tap ( via
capacitor)into the school telephone line which ran across the ceiling, and
listen hopefully, for short periods, before knocks on the door portended another
boy with film to develop. We never heard anything compromising, but were able
from overhearing the Sister talking to the doctor in Blandford, to tell the
outside world how a seriously sick in the Sanatorium was faring.
This was definitely a one off. I never made MI5 or hacked into No 10.
Happy New Year,
Richard Harvey (34 - 39)
