OC Golf Day 2003
24 OC’s and guests arrived at Temple Golf Club near Maidenhead on a glorious June day to play in the 11th year of this OC Golf Society event. Among those who played were;
Malcolm
Peake, Piers Sabine, John Garnett, Robin Harrison, Colin Scragg, Andrew Beaton,
Ian Simcock, David Wakely, Alex Wall, David Caddy, Kelvin Moore, Spencer Holtom,
Max Dowse, George Hodgson, Colin Jones, Peter Aley, Barry Stevenson, Rodney
Spokes, Colin Redstone, David Bennett Trevor Harrison, John Eggleton, Sam Cooke,
Julian Bailey.
The OC Golf Society owes much of its continued success from the generous support from the OC Society. Their donation helps to keep the cost of the golf and dinner to a very reasonably level for a prestigious club in the South East area.
The Results
In the morning round John Garnett, making a welcome return to the OC Golf Day after a few years absence and Piers Sabine combined brilliantly to accumulate 46 points and took the morning prize from runners up Colin Scragg and Julian Bailey with 43.
The main prize of the day, the Iwerne Cup is played in the afternoon. The
current holder of the
cup Colin Scragg put up a very solid defence with 35 points. The always
competitive, Spencer Holtom also returned a card with 35 points. As current
Captain of his club Rushmore, near Tollard Royal, Max Dowse is obviously playing
a lot more golf and it showed in his score of 36 points and he was runner-up. So
a new name goes onto the Iwerne Cup with 39 points and the clear winner was
David Wakely.
A better ball fourball was played alongside the Iwerne Cup and again some good scores were returned.
Newcomer
to the event Alex Wall and Julian Bailey with 45 points just piped David Caddy
and Colin Scragg with 44. In joint third place were the pairings Robin Harrison
with John Eggleston and David Wakely with Kelvin Moore. Other scores of 40
points and over were Max Dowse and Malcolm Peake and Peter Aley and Sam Cooke.
OC Neil Pitcher was a welcomed guest for drinks, on a glorious evening, looking down across the Thames at Marlow and then dinner in the clubhouse. All in all, this was another memorable golf day for the OC Golf Society.
We are planning an OC golf match against the School in September and a match against Rushmore GC in October. Any golfers interested in playing in either please email Julian Bailey
