Following our recent telephone conversation would you please include details of our Trio Concert in aid of the Clayesmore Fund in your next OC communication.
On 27th November Carol and Christopher Irby and Andrew Zolinsky are playing a trio concert at Clayesmore in aid of the Appeal.
Carol is a sub principal first violin in the English National Opera. She is married to Christopher Irby who was at Clayesmore from 1945 to 1948 where he started the cello with Amy Allen. He boasts of being one of the few people not to have been terrified by her and even managed to tame her! After that experience he studied with Muriel Taylor at the Royal Academy of Music and then joined the Royal Horse Guards where he played in the mounted band, giving him the distinction of being the only cellist in the profession ever to have played trombone on horseback. When he left the army he came back to Dorset and taught the cello at Clayesmore, Cranborne Chase, Bryanston, and Sherborne. He taught David Munroe OC who is principal double bass with the Northern Sinfonia. He has been a member of the Bournemouth and London Philharmonic orchestras, has been principal cello of the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, and has for many years been in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
