From Mark Ward-Jackson

Dear OC

I returned to the school for the first time since 1984, and although I have been a bit lax, I must say I was disappointed to see so few boys/girls, let alone any who were at the school when I was (75-80).

It was an interesting experience to walk around the school again - so many new features - the gym, classroom block, shop, the other half of the music block (south side of the old squash court). Also to find that we are no longer able to walk freely around the main building since it is now a couple of girls houses; carpets in the main hallway as well! Strangely enough some of the typical smells remain, whether unique to Clayesmore or just a school smell, I do not know.

The kids are friendly enough and seem to show a genuine interest in what it was like in the “old days”, although for the life of me, it does not seem that long ago since I left.

The rugby match this afternoon was worth watching - a convincing victory by the 1st XV over Ryde School.
I trust you will visit the place more often - perhaps just once or twice will do.

Yours,

Mark Ward - Jackson (75-80).
