The School 1st XI Cricket Tour to Barbados
The 1st XI cricketers have been invited to participate in the eleventh Sir Garfield Sobers Cricket Festival in Barbados in July 1998. The tournament will be made up of approximately sixteen teams from England, Canada, South Africa, and the West Indies, competing in two leagues for a place in the semi-finals. There will also be a plate competition. The matches will be played over 40 overs and will be subject to the John Player one day rules.
Thrilled at having been invited the boys are trying to raise as much money as possible to finance the trip. Money has already been pledged by the School Governors, the friends of Clayesmore and the OC Society. The boys have managed to raise some money from a school disco and a sponsored 12 mile run around the school mile. They managed to run a total of 126 miles. We are also hoping to raise money with a Summer Ball on Saturday 23rd May (to be confirmed). Perhaps we could arrange a cricket match between OCs and a select XI on that day.
The boys have also sent out hundreds of letters to every company they can think of asking for sponsorship. The only beneficiary so far seems to be the Royal Mail!
Can you help us? Any contributions or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
