OC Classic Car Gathering
Bill Shields has put forward an imaginative proposal that is endorsed by the OC Committee - A Classic Car Gathering at Clayesmore where participating OCs and their partners should arrive in vehicles of the year (or earlier than) the time they actually spent at Clayesmore. Dress should correspond to the same period. He suggests that quite a number of OCs have classic cars and welcome opportunities to use them. Moreover, if there are any OCs within reasonable distance of Tiverton who would like the loan of a classic car for such an event, he might be able to assist.Before we try to organise such an event we need to have some idea as to how many OCs would participate.
Assuming there is a good response we propose an event at Clayesmore during the summer of 1999.
Bill Shields has suggested the following programme :-
10.00 am. onwards Assembly of Vehicles at the school.
12.00 Judging to commence (This may be done by a team of three persons from the school).
Entries could be simply split into three groups:-
Pre - war up to 1940 Post - war 1945 - 1959 Post - war 1960 - 1974
Points will be awarded for :-
Originality and condition. Distance travelled. Car "I would most like to own".
1.00 - 2.00 Picnic lunch (Participants to bring their own).
2.30 pm Driving skills competition. (Not speed nor hill climbs etc.). Organised by the school, weather, ground conditions and space permitting.
4.30 pm Parade and commentary on vehicles.
5.00 pm Finale and presentation of prizes.
5.30 pm Departure.
Funding of the event could be by pre-paid entry fee of £5.00 per vehicle or £10.00 entry fee on the day. Any surplus being donated to Clayesmore Centenary Fund.
