Editorial
Last year the Society published a lengthy Newsletter which included material that had accumulated over three years. At the time, members of the committee were so desperate to publish something there was no ceiling put on the budget. (It was felt that there was spare cash in the coffers as a result of the previous lean years). This year there is even more material to publish and we must keep down costs - hence the fuller page and the smaller type. We have also cut out the colour. The increase in material is due to:- 1. John Grant is doing an amazing job at school in tracing OCs with whom the OC Society and the School have lost touch. A bye product of this work is masses of information about OCs. 2. We now use E Mail and have a small OC website on the internet. Soon this Newsletter will replace the last one on our website and will be available worldwide! Several OCs have communicated by e mail and we are publishing an OC e mail address list. If you are not on it and would like to be, please send in your e mail address to old clayesmoriansoc@lineone.net and over the year we will add to the address list on the website. Any ideas as to what else would be useful on the website will be welcome. 3 There are now two of us chasing you up for material.
As you search for your magnifying glasses and read through this edition you will probably come to the conclusion that there is no editor. You will be right as nothing has been cut. The reason for this is simple: our readership covers a vast age range of 18 to 90+. So if you are board by some articles, just hope that OCs from another generation will be engrossed.
Please remember that by the time this edition reaches you the 1999 edition will be forming in the computer. If you want it to be interesting, please send in a contribution straight away - or at any rate, by October 1st. If you can send in contributions by e mail, so much the better as I do not then have to type it in(a little know worthless fact - this edition comprises of over 190,000 characters - quite a task for a non typist!)
The OC Society computer now has Quark software - we need it to prepare the material for the printer. Julian Bailey has kindly promised us a programme that will make it easier to publish information on our website. We could do with a scanner. If any member is about to upgrade his or her scanner and is not sure what to do with the old one, please remember the OC Newsletter. I gather that once we have a scanner we can include photos on our website.
Thanks to all of you who have contributed to this edition. Special thanks to David Anderson and Maureen Beck for proof reading.
