Letters 1998
18th July 1998
Dear Mr Grant,
I am sorry for this very long delay in answering your kind letter dated 9th February, 1998.
What trouble and research you have been to and I am pleased that my eldest brother was found and gave you the necessary information.
Today I think that we should all try to help each other more than ever before because life is difficult and changes occur with such speed. Therefore, I think that to know where OCs are and what they do can be most useful and certainly always interesting information.
I am not enormously 'old school-tie' minded but enjoy being kept in touch and one never knows when or how something may be of great interest or importance.
My full name today is: D.H. Maude-Roxby-Montalto di Fragnito and in Italy I am, The Duke of Fragnito. My address is :- Palazzo Ducale, 82020 Fragnito Monforte, Benevento. Tel (0039) 824 986020 Fax: (0039) 824 312312
I have created a foundation for charitable work to help and stimulate the young, the gifted, and the area as a whole. It is called the Accademia Montalto.
We have already started festivals and exhibitions, concerts, a writers' retreat and we are preparing possible programmes with students from universities. All have been international events. We are looking forward to the day we can put on operas but needless to say, we have to have more money before all my ideas can be realised.
There is now a university in our nearest town of Benevento and they are developing programmes for an eventual exchange of students with universities abroad.
I myself am also a diamond point stipple engraver of glass with works in collections around the world. I now have a piece in the Victoria & Albert Museum with another piece accepted by them, which goes to them on the death of its owner! I also paint and work with precious metals and jewels to create works for presentations. I designed and engraved the glasses that were presented to Heads of State when the UK entered the Common Market (E.E.C.). I think this will suffice for the moment!
Please let me know if you need any other information.
Perhaps you would be good enough to pass this on to the OC Society. I used to be a life member - if my memory does not fail me.
With best wishes and thanks for your hard work in contacting me.
Yours sincerely,
David M-R-M di F....
