Michael C Smith

Mike Smith worked with the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh, He was one of the small, yet all important Petroleum Group based at Gilmerton with the unique archive of cores obtained from the North Sea and the area of both offshore and onshore Britain

A graduate of the former Kingston Technical College in 1962, Mike smith maintained a general interest in nature, and since its formation in 1992, had served as secretary of Lothian and Borders Regionally Important Geological Sites Group. With a strong interest in conservation, he established worthwhile links with a wide range of other organisations such as Scottish Natural Heritage, the Scottish Wildlife Trust and the Scottish Landowners' Federation to name a few.

Mike Smith is survived by his wife, Averil Helen Hope, whom he married in 1996
