OC Events to Celebrate the Millennium

The OC Committee are very much hoping that the OC Society will start the new Millennium with two successful events. The first of which will be the AGM and Dinner at Simpson's-in-the-Strand on Saturday 29th January 2000.

We have kept the cost of this to a minimum - in fact we regularly subsidise this event as costs are so high. We now have to pay for the hire of the two rooms at Simpson's as well as for the meals. We are looking for an alternate venue but up to now have been unable to find anything as suitable at less cost. Were we to charge our members the actual cost of the hire of the rooms, we would have to add another £10 to the cost of the evening.

Are there any OCs, or groups of OCs, who would be willing to 'sponsor' a Simpson's event in the future by picking up the cost of the rooms? Any OC interested in the possibility of sponsoring a Simpson's event should contact the Hon. Sec. as soon as possible as this will please him enormously!

We would very much like to keep down the cost of this event to a minimum to help younger members afford to come. We already offer new members a half-price ticket for their first AGM and Dinner and feel that if we could eliminate the cost of the rooms and therefore keep down the overall cost, we will be encouraging more members to attend.

We are confident that there will be an unusually large gathering this year due in no small way to the excellent efforts of Hamish Dow (73-78)(who has contacted everybody who entered Clayesmore the same year that he did) and Dennis Ewing (70-75) who has also been contacting many of his contemporaries.

September 16th 2000. Choral Day and Dorset Dinner at Clayesmore with an exhibition of pictures by N. A. Scadding, a gathering of Classic cars, and a Soccer match against members of the school.

The Choral Day will be similar to previous events: we meet over a coffee at 11.00, we rehearse, break for lunch, rehearse, break for tea, rehearse, and give a Concert in the School Chapel at about 6.00pm.

The Classic Car Gathering will be held during the afternoon with the judges getting to work at tea time.

The Soccer Match will take place during the afternoon.

The Scadding Exhibition will be opened during the pre-dinner drink in the Drawing room.

The Dorset Dinner will end the day in style.

Information for the Dorset day will be sent out nearer the time, but please note the date now.
