Donald Cameron - Brown

Dear Nick,

I am afraid that I will not be able to come to the dinner on January 29th for those who left Clayesmore in 1945. I hope that you all have a most enjoyable evening.
I was interested to see the list of 1945 leavers. My memory is feeling its age, and naturally I do not remember all of them. However, I was interested to see Keith Hall and Adrian Turner’s names there, as I was under the impression that they were both a couple of years senior to me.

As it happens, they are the two OCs with whom I am still in touch. Indeed, the post which brought the invitation also brought a belated Christmas card from Adrian, who has had a serious accident. I came to know him better because he was at the British Embassy in Rome at a time when my work sometimes took me to that city, while Keith was on the staff of the insurance firm with which we dealt.

Two things in particular Clayesmore gave me: a love of music, and an ability to recognise birdsong (which Peter Yeo taught me). Indeed, I believe I would still recognize a cirl bunting, although I haven't heard one since I left the school. On the other hand, we have ravens nesting on our estate and buzzards flying over it frequently, so we do not do badly.

With best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

Donald Cameron-Brown (42-45)
