Dear Roger
I am delighted to read in the OC Newsletter that you are to take the role of OC
Liaison Officer. I am sure that however well OC matters are catered for there
are always more, and very worthwhile things, to be done.
I applaud the initiative of asking school leavers of particular years to attend
the OC dinner and, as a result of my having received a letter from David
Anderson addressed to 1945 leavers, I shall attend this year’s dinner later this
month. If still greater numbers are sought, perhaps grouping the years, e.g.
appealing to the 1943, 4, 5, and 6 leavers would have even greater appeal. I
look forward to this year's event.
I congratulate Nick Zelle for the excellently newsworthy OC Newsletter which
arrived recently. Circulation may be a problem because I hear from John Eveleigh
that, despite paying his 'sub' regularly he is not receiving his copy.
More seriously John complains that, having initiated the Scadding Prize, he is
not consulted or informed about any outcomes. He makes the point that
competition will not be encouraged unless awards are made. I have an interest
because I own two paintings by David Koster which I might donate to the fund or
leave to the school.
I last attended an OC occasion in September 2001 when the Scadding exhibition
was held and when Nick Zelle organised a choral event which was great fun and
much appreciated. I know there was disappointment amongst some OCs when his task
was handed to others last year because Nick managed it with such expertise and
cheerful aplomb!
Yours, with best wishes for the future
