Jenny Coles, an upper sixth form student, has received the
Scadding Prize this year for her outstanding contribution to art at Clayesmore.
Jenny has been with the school since 1995 and has been the most loyal of young
artists. I can think of no other person who has been as faithful to her work and
her teachers as Jenny has in the last ten years. As all potters, she knows what
disaster looks like! But through difficult times and times of success, she has
continued her work with amazing energy and conviction, often tackling seemly
impossible projects with unremitting enthusiasm, and undiminished gusto! No
surprise then that her last project, the exam piece for the OCR examination was
to be the most risky and the most technically challenging. No surprise also that
the representative for the exam board recognized its uniqueness, and has
nominated this piece for inclusion to the OCR exhibition Celebrating
Achievement, at Think Tank at Millennium Point, Birmingham, in November 2005. We
are very proud of Jenny!
