OC City Lunch - Thursday 3 June

Published on June 12th, 2010 11:50

A Magnificent Seven sat down for another splendid City lunch at the Beaujolais, Lichfield Street.

Once again good food, excellent wine, great service and above all intelligent and well educated company meant that the meal finished long after four. It was agreed that it would be very much same time, same place next year.

Rodney Spokes spoke of the pleasures of supporting Leicester Tigers and a very large family funeral he had just been to in Kansas City. Hugh Thompson hoped that the Maoists would not, later in the year, disrupt his ten week teaching adventure in Nepal. Bob Mash lamented that his follow up on dinosaurs, a book on fairies hadn't taken wing. David Fangen was in serious grief, having sold his large London house to move full time to Bedchester, he had said good bye to a large part of his much loved library. Louise Smith and Christopher Johnston spent some of lunch discussing entrepreneurship. Over all this OC Chairman Andrew Beaton as always presided with quiet confidence and assurance. As he arrived late he bought an extra bottle of wine.

Some 30 OCs met at the Pitcher & Piano in Nottingham on Saturday 13 February for the first Nottingham reunion.

Leavers from across the years were present, including those living in Nottingham and who had travelled over three hours to be at the event.

The party met for drinks and buffet supper in the beautiful deconsecrated church and spent the evening reminiscing, exchanging news and catching up with each other, as well as making new friends.

It is anticipated that a similar event will be held next year.

The Old Clayesmorian Society Annual Dinner and AGM was held at Clayesmore on Saturday 23 January 2010. Some 75 Old Clayesmorians attended the event which began with the AGM held in the de Selincourt Room.

This was followed by a champagne reception held in the main house reception rooms, before a three course dinner and coffee was served in the Dining Hall.

The Chairman, Andrew Beaton, said grace and introduced proceedings while the President, Piers Sabine, made the loyal toast and the founder's toast. The Headmaster proposed the health of the Society and then Mark Fraser, Head of Drama at the school reflected on the uniqueness an education at Clayesmore has to offer, and how fortunate he feels to have been part of it for the past 19 years.

It then fell to David Fangen to organise a quick game of Heads and Tails, which raised £350 for The Spinney Memorial Trust (the winner of which was Anna Laura Pio - wife of Robert), before "The Rat Pack" struck up and guests took to the dance floor.
