Michael Henbest Memorial Service & OC Day
Sunday 8th October 2006
Last weekend saw OC's descend upon that quiet Dorset village we all know so well .
The girls hockey & boys rugby teams, along with their camp followers, started a few hours early by meeting in the Talbot for all of Saturday night - (Must have helped the local economy!)
On Sunday morning at 11.00am, am the OC's arrived on site to check out the opposition. The girls were faced with a team of current students while the boys were to play a team of staff. Both matches were hard played, the boys driven by memories of two successive victories, the girls determined to avenge last years defeat.
And did it all go to plan? Well sort of ! - The OC girls won 3 - 2, however the boys failed to gain the much discussed hat-trick, perhaps due to the excessive "planning" entered into the previous evening.
After an enjoyable lunch and coffee in the Drawing Room, the OC's and former colleagues gathered in the chapel to remember Michael Henbest.
The Service was conducted by the Reverend Jonathan Edwards, Chaplain, the readings were by Roger Kingwill OC and the Headmaster while the tribute was offered by Jim Tilden. The music was performed by the school choir conducted by Keith Pigot, while the Headmaster accompanied on the organ.
A personal high point for the writer was the performance of Hayden's String Quartet in G Major, Opus 77 No1 (First movement) by Mr Henbest's three daughters - Caroline, Rosemary and Jenny along with Chris Pitsillides.
After the service the Headmaster kindly invited the OC's back to the school for tea and the chance to reminisce with old friends.
